Facebook finds: compliments, not critics

This post simply has to begin by telling you about Terrie of Chicago, from whom I learned about this story.  Terrie is an incredible, grounded woman.  We were in graduate school together, and she was poised, brilliant, down to earth, approachable and a true leader — even through her first pregnancy during year two of business school.  Her husband, Wendell, shares Terrie’s wonderful qualities — just add a wicked sense of humor to his mix of awesome.  They were – and are – a “power couple” in all the best ways.  Good people, doing right by their friends and family with an extra dash of impressive brains and heart.

Terrie recently shared the following post on Facebook:

Incredibly proud of these young ladies! They started the “OPRF Compliments” facebook page (check it out) to encourage students at their school to post compliments about each other. Students were able to post compliments secretly via google docs or messaging. It caught on like wildfire and they managed to keep their identities a secret all year long….even from the their parents. Today they revealed their identities and passed on a new tradition to four Juniors. Wonderful tradition! #proudofmydaughterandhercrew #kindnessmatters

It comes as no surprise to me that Terrie and Wendell’s child would do such an awesome thing.  With all that’s been discussed regarding teen use of social media, it is so good, so good to see it used for MORE GOOD than bad!  Congratulations to these young leaders — and here’s hoping many will follow the path they’ve paved to passing along compliments, not critiques.
